Mamdani Playin' the Same Ol' Game: Promises Broken to the People
NYC Mayor flip-flops on housing vouchers, leavin' folks on the streets while he cries broke.

Aight, so peep this: Mayor Mamdani, the dude who swore he was gonna fix the housing situation in NYC? Turns out, he just another politician talkin' outta both sides of his mouth. He promised to expand the City Fighting Homelessness and Eviction Prevention Supplement (CityFHEPS) program, but now he appealin' it. Word is bond, this ain't nothin' new.
CityFHEPS supposed to help folks in shelters and those about to be homeless find a crib, ya dig? But the program's cost done jumped from $176 million in 2019 to a projected $1.2 billion in 2025. Now they claimin' it too expensive, like we didn't see this comin'.
Back in '23, the City Council tried to make it easier for people to get these vouchers. Lower income limits, less red tape, the whole nine. But then-Mayor Eric Adams, he shot that down, sayin' it would bankrupt the city. Council overrode him, but the damage was already done.
Now Mamdani, who said he'd drop the challenge during his campaign, is usin' the same excuse as Adams: the City Council went too far. This ain't a shocker, tho. They always got a reason why they can't help the people who need it most.
Christine Quinn from WIN (the biggest shelter provider in the city) callin' it a betrayal. She ain't wrong. But these politicians ain't never been loyal to the struggle. They just sayin' what they gotta say to get elected, then switchin' up on us faster than a TikTok trend.
Mamdani claimin' the city's broke. But where that money goin'? Not to the people livin' on the streets, that's for sure. They buildin' luxury condos and gentrifyin' neighborhoods, pushin' us further and further out. Same song, different verse.
This whole situation showin' how the system rigged against us. They don't care about the homeless, the working class, or the folks just tryin' to survive. They only care about the corporations and the rich folks holdin' the purse strings.
So what we gotta do? We gotta hold these politicians accountable. We gotta organize, mobilize, and demand change. We gotta fight for our rights and make sure our voices heard. Ain't nobody gonna do it for us.
This ain't just about housin' vouchers. It's about respect, dignity, and the right to live a decent life. It's about breakin' the cycle of poverty and inequality that keepin' us down. It's about reclaimin' our communities and buildin' a better future for ourselves and our children.
